Who ARE you?
I’m an artist/illustrator/sculptor/painter, creative person. I spend a great part of my day with my horse, Bizhani and his friend, Cisco, and two kitties. Finnigan and Thea. My best friend and confidant is Tom Reno, an abstract painter, who also travels the country painting signs that are looking a little faded. I’ll tell you more in later posts.
Why this, why now?
I’ve been putting off creating a blog, or even much of any of a social media presence. For YEARS. But after hearing Seth Godin talk about Substack, I was intrigued. Why now? It’s really high time. I’d like to share my work with more of the world, and I like the other people who hang out here.
What kind of community are you looking to build here?
My ideal community is peopled with lovers of this world, despite the shape it’s in. People who do what they can to make it better, with kindness.
Be specific?
I will post about once a week, at least once a month, if things get hectic, with occasional extras if I’m excited about something. Just know I’m not going anywhere.
Also I promise to be reasonably good about posting on my Instagram and Facebook accounts. But this is where my heart is. After experiencing being here for a while, I’ll start a paid subscription; how great that would be to have a little extra support for the lean times. What would make it worth it, other than my undying gratitude? I’ll ask for feedback. Some classes? Fun things to download?
One of my favorite things is making little pen and watercolor drawings like the one below. It is one of a few studies for a book I may publish in a while, “Beloved White Horse.” Right now there is only the hand-bound one, made a few years ago. In my next post, I already have it planned (whoo hoo! ). There is a downloadable PDF of my famous method for catch-and-release fly removal. The post is titled “Honor All Beings.”
